Subject: Old IBM PC Machines Won't Run on 2.1 Network
Date: May 25, 1988
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
GENERAL
INFORMATION: We had a user report a problem with very old IBM PCs and
Netware v2.1. The machines were running fine under v2.0a.
The machines having problems are the model 5150 PCs; 5160 PCs
work fine, since they have a later BIOS revision. The user
verified with IBM that model 5150 PCs, which have a BIOS chip
with the last 4 digits being 1475, will have problems running
on a network. If the machine is younger than 1982, or the
user can verify that the BIOS chip is 1575 or later, there
should be no problem. A machine with the older ROM BIOS
(1475 on the chip) will hang when trying to execute NET3.
